Adolf Loos designed this 27 m² room in 1908 — mahogany, marble, and mirrors that visually double the space — as a manifesto of modern architecture. Classic American cocktails (Manhattan, Old Fashioned), a quiet crowd, and the occasional pilgrimage by an unknown architect from somewhere in the world. No reservations, so come before 10pm.

An Italian speakeasy behind a discreet door on Bauernmarkt — Roberto Pavlović-Hariwijadi (a 50 Best legend) mixes Vienna's best cocktails. Small room (30 seats), thick atmosphere, classics and a signature menu. Reservations essential.

Tue–Sat 18:00–02:00; closed Sun–Mon.

A bar on the 18th floor of Jean Nouvel's Sofitel — glass façades, a ceiling installation by Pipilotti Rist (lit-up LED panel art), and a 360° view of Vienna across the Donaukanal. Come at sunset for the light hitting Stephansdom; cocktails €18-22.

A small bar in the 7th district with a deliberate 'down-the-rabbit-hole' feel — low light, leather armchairs, a short but precisely curated cocktail list. Name from a Bob Dylan song, crowd of creatives and locals.

Tue–Sat 19:00–02:00; closed Sun–Mon.

Vienna's heaviest techno club — locals call it the 'Vienna Berghain', with a serious sound system and strict door policy (black wardrobe, no selfies). Friday-Saturday with minimal/techno guest DJs from Berlin and Detroit; parties have been known to run until noon. On the Donaukanal.

A small wine bar and salon in the 1st district — a 100% Austrian curated wine list (Wachau, Burgenland, Styria) by the glass, with charcuterie boards and cheese. Warm, un-marketed atmosphere, the owner walks you through the list himself.
