Ada Bojana & ušće rijeke(Ada Bojana)

The most popular day trip from Ulcinj — a river island born from an 1858 shipwreck, with fish restaurants perched on wooden platforms above the Bojana. Half a day on the river, half a day on the naturist beach if that's your thing.

• 💡The naturist camp is only one section of the island — there's a 'textile' beach as well if that's more your speed.

The largest lake in the Balkans and the heart of a national park — boat trips through water-lily fields and bird colonies, with the fishing village of Virpazar as your starting point. A UNESCO biosphere with 280 bird species.

Tips

• 💡Boats leave Virpazar once they fill up — get there before 10am to catch the morning trip and miss the worst of the heat.

• 💡Pelikan in Virpazar has the best lake fish — carp, perch, eel.
• 💡National park entry is €4 per person (usually included in the boat fare).

Stari Bar — grad-ruševina(Stari Bar)

A medieval town on the slopes of Mount Rumija, abandoned in 1878 after earthquakes and wars — today preserved as an open-air museum. A romantic ruin with a cathedral, an aqueduct, a fortress, and a panorama of modern Bar down on the coast.

What to see

• •A walk through the old town ruins (€3 entry, 1.5h)
• •The 11th-century Cathedral of St. George (the roof is gone, but the atmosphere isn't)
• •Europe's oldest olive tree (over 2,000 years old) in nearby Mirovica
• •The Ottoman-era aqueduct
• •Lunch at Kaldrma, just outside the old-town entrance

Tips

• 💡Go in the afternoon (3-4pm) — the sun is lower, the stone turns gold, and there are fewer tourists.
• 💡The access steps are steep — wear trainers, not sandals.
• 💡The Old Olive (Stara Maslina in Mirovica) is just 1 km from the old town — pair the two visits.
• 💡Modern Bar also has a nice marina and the old royal palace (Dvorac Kralja Nikole) if you've got time to spare.
