Patrick Pistolesi's Tokyo-inspired cocktail bar — neon lights, a Japanese-Italian drinks list, and a place on the World's 50 Best Bars. Three rooms, each with its own vibe. Come early (before 10pm) for a table.

Rome's first proper speakeasy — unmarked door, monthly password (posted on the website), classic cocktail menu. Reservations required; it's run as a members' club (€5 a year).

Mon–Sat 22:00–04:00; closed Sun.

An old mechanic's garage turned cocktail bar — a Trastevere classic, with an *aperitivo* buffet from 7pm offering unlimited food with your drink. A young Roman crowd, with the street and piazzetta out front always packed.

Daily 18:30–02:00.

A tiny craft beer pub in Trastevere (barely 15 people fit inside) — Rome's biggest selection of Italian craft beer, Birra del Borgo and more. The name comes from a football chant. In summer, the street out front turns into one big beer garden.

Daily 11:00–02:00.

Rome's oldest electronic club — house, techno, with guest DJs of Berghain/Fabric calibre. Industrial Ostiense, so a taxi is essential. Doors at 11pm, but it doesn't really kick off until 1am.

Fri–Sat 23:30–05:00 (season Oct–May).

A stylish cocktail lounge on Piazza di Pietra (next to Hadrian's Temple) — a library to flick through with your drink, and a great aperitivo buffet. Perfect for early evening with a view of a 2,000-year-old colonnade.
